General Function: Under the supervision of the Program Director or designated supervisor, and in harmony with the mission and purpose of the established policies and goals of the YMCA of the Virginia Peninsulas, the Summer Camp Sailing Assistant is responsible for assisting with the daily operations and instruction of the sailing program.
Qualifications: 1.
Must be at least 15 years of age.
2.
Must have at least 2 years’ experience in program area.
3.
Must be able to operate a 16’ Carolina skiff.
4.
Demonstrated operational knowledge of small sail boats (i.
e.
opti, minifish, sunfish, etc.
) 5.
Experience working with children in a supervised setting preferred.
6.
Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED/O2 required within 30 days.
7.
Complete and maintain required trainings to include: New Employee Orientation (NEO), Bloodborne Pathogens, Child Abuse Prevention (CAP), and Sexual Harassment.
8.
Satisfactory completion of a criminal background check, Virginia State Police background check, and Child Protective Services check.
Essential Functions: 1.
Support the mission, vision and goals of the YMCA.
2.
Promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility throughout all aspects of the program.
3.
Maintain attendance rosters.
4.
Establish and maintain communication with staff, participants and/or parents and Program Director or designated supervisor.
5.
Follow and teach proper water safety standards.
6.
Prepare, maintain and clean equipment, develop supply lists, ensure proper use of YMCA facilities and equipment.
7.
Wear staff uniform and name tag, or professional attire when appropriate.
8.
Attend staff meetings and trainings as scheduled.
9.
Act as a leader in emergency situations.
Report any accidents or incidents according to Emergency Communication Action Plan.
10.
Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
11.
Promote and participate in YMCA fundraising efforts to include Annual Support and United Way Campaigns.
12.
Ensure all members, guests, and program participants are in a safe environment and actively follow branch Emergency Operations Plan (EOP).
13.
Carry out other related duties as deemed necessary by center operations to ensure an excellent member experience.
