Be a part of something great and dive into a role where you will not only shape landscapes but also cultivate a talented crew! As the Parks Tree Maintenance Crew Leader you will : Provide on-site direction and leadership to crews of tree service workers.
Assign work to meet maintenance schedules and work order requests.
Ensure the appropriate materials, tools, equipment and supplies are obtained for each assignment/work order.
Ensure that proper policies, procedures and safety precautions are adhered.
Complete a variety of forms and documentation related to the work of the crews, to include completing records on work performed; and completing inventory, inspection, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and route assignment forms.
Review assigned requests for the removal, pruning or maintenance of trees.
Evaluate work site, subject trees and type of request; prepares work site to ensure safe and efficient working conditions; and determines and obtains equipment necessary to complete request.
Operate a variety of equipment and tools in the maintenance, and/or removal of trees.
Respond to service requests and complaints ensuring customer satisfaction with work outcome.
Monitor team effectiveness through customer feedback, i.
e.
surveys, etc.
Use blowers and brooms to remove leaves and debris from sidewalks and curbs; and shovels snow from same.
Perform preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment, such as sharpening blades, changing oil and cleaning.
Transport, and load tools off and on trucks as needed.
Minimum RequirementsHigh school diploma or successful completion of the GED.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in landscaping and grounds keeping to include three (3) years of experience removing, maintaining, pruning and climbing trees.
One (1) year of experience supervising the work of others preferred.
Must obtain a Registered Technician Pesticide License within six (6) months of employment.
Must possess and maintain a Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) OR must possess a valid CDL within 90 days of employment.
Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
Additional RequirementsRequires effective communication with internal and external customers.
Requires shift work to include evenings, weekends, and holidays and on-call emergency standby on a rotating basis.
The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
