Responsibilities: Clinical Supervisor- Newport News Behavioral Health Center POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the delivery of inpatient and outpatient continuing care and family services.
This includes providing clinical support clinical staff members, clinical supervision for license eligible therapists/social workers, reviewing documentation for compliance, and ensuring adherence to all program and regulatory requirements.
Position is also responsible when necessary for providing interventions, conducting psychosocial assessments, developing the resident’s treatment plan, facilitating group, and individual and family therapy.
In addition to the above duties, the Clinical Supervisor, develops, monitors, proofreads, and signs resident/patient treatment plans, biopsychosocial assessments, recreation therapy notes, group therapy notes, family session notes, individual therapy notes, case management notes and discharge documentation.
The Clinical Supervisor will assist with training as requested.
Newport News Behavioral Health Center is a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs.
Newport News has an on-site certified school, art and music therapists, and vocational programming.

Must have a Master’s Degree in counseling or related health services field.
NNBHC prefers at least three years of clinical experience, at least two years of supervisory experience, and a thorough working knowledge of psychiatric disorders, evidenced based treatment modalities, and appropriate mental health intervention techniques.
Must be able to compose and deliver educational lectures.
Must be able to communicate effectively with other health care professionals, both verbally and in writing.
Must have at least one year working/treating adolescents.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide clinical supervision to assigned therapists.
Provide clinical support to clinical staff in the absence of the Clinical Director.
Responsible for maintaining the therapeutic milieu which includes overseeing and coordinating the delivery of inpatient, continuing care and family services.
Monitors adherence to the program schedule and assists the multidisciplinary team in coordinating the resident’s care.
Attends and assists in treatment team meetings and clinical staffing meetings.
Provides group and individual supervision.
Monitors the clinical staff’s adherence to daily, weekly, and monthly documentation compliance standards.
Assists with mentoring and orienting new therapists and interns to the facility/program.
Provides admissions personnel with ongoing admissions and discharge information.
Participates in AMA prevention and intervention activities.
Completes an initial bonding session with the resident within 24 hours of admission or by the next business day.
Conducts emotional, behavioral and social assessment within 7 days of admission, and determines what, if any, further assessments are needed (psychological, vocational, etc.
).
Transfers the problems identified in the assessments of the Master Problem List, and prioritizes the problems for treatment.
With the multidisciplinary treatment team, identifies treatment goals and objectives that are clearly related to the problems on the Master Problem List.
Goals/objectives are measurable and time bound.
Develop individualized treatment plans for assigned residents.
With the treatment team, identifies interventions that clearly relate to the treatment objectives, and establishes discharge criteria.
Reviews monthly treatment plan reports and ensures that progress in treatment is clearly documented in a timely manner.
Conducts group therapy sessions as assigned.
Ensures that group therapy progress notes are completed and submitted to medical records before the next group session takes place.
Conducts individual therapy sessions as assigned.
Ensures that individual therapy progress notes are completed and handed into medical records daily.
Conducts family therapy sessions as assigned.
Ensures that family therapy progress notes are completed and handed into medical records by the end of the next business day.
Develops and conducts educational lectures for residents and/or families as assigned.
Serves as a liaison with the resident’s legal guardian, inviting them to call with questions, and keeping them apprised of the resident’s progress at least weekly.
Serves as advocate with courts, schools, and family, etc.
Coordinates and develops a continuing care plan and prepares resident for discharge.
Ensures that all assigned supervisees complete documentation daily and accurately.
Assists the Director of Clinical Services in overseeing and maintaining all aspects of clinical programming in the Substance Use, Trauma, RTC, and Sexually Abusive Youth programs.
At the discretion of the Director of Clinical Services, develop clinical interventions for Substance Use, Trauma, RTC, and Sexually Abusive Youth programs.
Maintain an individual and group therapy caseload as required.
Develops forms and systems that are conducive to accuracy and superior service.
Administers corrective action when necessary to improve employee performance.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and at times work independently.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in the principles, procedures and best practices related to this position.
Flexible to work some evenings and weekends to meet therapist/social worker, resident/patient, and family needs.
