THE DIVISION The Division of Virginia State Parks fulfills its mission “to conserve the natural, scenic, historic and cultural resources of the Commonwealth and provide recreational and educational opportunities consistent with the good stewardship of these lands, waters and facilities that leaves them unimpaired for future generations” by operating a system of 41 state parks that encompass over 75,000 acres; over 1200 buildings, almost 1700 campsites; over 300 cabins; over 700 miles of trails; nearly 500 miles of shoreline; 36 lakes and ponds; 11 swimming beaches; 4 international dark sky sites, and offers over 20,000 educational programs and workshops each year.

THE PARK New River Trail is a 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way.
The park parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles and passes through four counties and the city of Galax.
The trail's gentle slope makes it great for visitors of all ages to hike, bike and ride horseback.
The park's Foster Falls area offers canoe and bike rentals; boat launches; gift shops; and a horse arena.
Fishing is popular from the banks of the New River.
Extend your visit by reserving a primitive campsite or enjoy the comfort of the Inn at Foster Falls for a boutique lodging experience.
The park's Hoover Mountain Biking Area is also popular with those seeking extra adventure.
There are access points to the trail at Allisonia, Chestnut Yard, Cliffview, Dannelly Park (near Galax), Draper, Dora Junction (near Pulaski), Foster Falls, Fries, Galax, Gambetta, Hiwassee and Ivanhoe.

THE OPPORTUNITY The Office Manager oversees a state park administrative field office and all associated functions.
This includes hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising a minimum of two wage administrative employees as well as training and oversight of all park staff on the Division’s cash management procedures.
The position also performs customer service duties in person, by telephone and email; makes camping and picnic shelter reservations through point-of-sale software; oversees revenue collections through point of sale systems, merchandise and retail duties, processing of delegated authority orders through Division’s Cardinal Procurement and eVA Software, procurement of goods and services, and all associated paperwork for hiring, termination and end of season separation for wage employees.
Incumbent will be responsible for all payroll duties for wage employees, ordering office supplies, budget tracking and reconciliations, and reports submittals to park management.
Completes golf cart special use permits and completes employee recognition award programs.
Position will require occasional overnight travel for training and meetings.
Shifts may vary and include some holidays and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications Experience in a customer service and/or public relations environment.
Experience with variety of office equipment and systems such as computers, Microsoft Office, Excel, Outlook, Word, Quicken, Canva, Publisher, printers, copiers and calculators.
Cash Management experience Budget Tracking and Management Additional Considerations Previous experience in a state park or a similar setting is very helpful.
Familiarity with state accounting procedures, procurement of goods, and financial systems Experience recruiting, hiring, supervising, managing personnel and their paperwork related to hiring submissions, monitoring timesheets, scheduling and submitting payroll.
Working knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping principles is required.
Ability to interpret policies and procedures for special use permit applications.
Ability to train staff through verbal, written and visual communications.
Experience managing inventories and assets.
Experience and knowledge of filing and record keeping policies and procedures.
